Overview of Isotope Studies on Atmospheric Hydrogen

Thomas Röckmann, Utrecht University, Wednesday 15th January, 2pm GMT

The isotope composition of molecular hydrogen can be used to constrain its atmospheric budget. Hydrogen that is emitted from different sources carries a characteristic isotope signature, and the sink processes remove HH and HD at different rates. In this presentation I will give an overview on characterisation of isotopic source signatures and sink kinetic isotope effects, atmospheric measurements of deltaD in H2, and our earlier model attempts to close the atmospheric HH and HD budgets.

Prof. Thomas Röckmann is director of the Institute for Marine and Atmospheric research Utrecht (IMAU) at Utrecht University in the Netherlands, where he also leads the Atmospheric Physics and Chemistry group. His research focusses on the investigation of global and regional budgets of greenhouse gases and other trace species using isotope characterisation and in-situ measurements.
